A Touch of Madness
Nestled in the isolated and fertile Karuga Valley is the town of Fallcrest. Considering the towns relative isolation it has a surprisingly large population, and an unsurprisingly large militia force. It is a strongly walled town surrounded by farms that take advantage of the valley’s very fertile soil. This fertility arises, quite literally, from the Anora river that originates from a spring in the mountains. In early spring every year the river floods, dumping huge quantities of rich river silt and mud on the surrounding flood plains. The high yield they receive as a result keeps the town rich through trade.
The towns relative wealth and isolation have made it a target in the past by a variety of powers. The mountains that give forth the Anora river also provide sanctuary for group of Kobolds. They infest the abandoned copper mines that riddle the mountain. On accasion when their numbers are high and a particualarly bold individual steps up to lead them, they have banded together and attacked Fallcrest. One such attack actually ended up burning the whole town to the ground. Brigands also haunt the one road that leads out of the valley. They attack anyone foolish enough to travel alone and they often take out the odd caravan despite them being heavily guarded.
